Some pictures-May 29, 2016

I thought I'd take a few minutes to share yet some more pictures of our little "angels".

I have posted pictures of Zoey and Hannah shooting water pistols
before, but I was not able to get a picture of the way Zoey carries her
little pistol. Guess who ends up with the most water from her pistol!

Pity the little spider who received an unexpected shower.

Hannah instructed Jerry on how to dress her so she could
be a princess holding her princess cat. I was not allowed
to see her until they finished the project. I must find a crown
for this "princess" so she will look more official.

We had a hail storm that lasted quite a while but it warmed up
so the hail didn't stick around long. I sent Jerry out with the girls
to collect hail stones.
Then we brought the stones in and cut them in half to see how many
times that stone had been to the top of the cloud. Maybe it means
nothing now, but one day they will share that information with
somebody else.

I do take pictures of things other than the girls sometimes.
This is a thunderstorm north of Limon taken on Wednesday
as we drove back from Burlington. If you please ignore the flash you will see a classic
thunderstorm. And yet above it there's that beautiful Colorado blue sky.

We went to Burlington to trade our Cute Red Vehicle. It has served its purpose and it was time for room and comfort with lots of bells and whistles. It will take us a year to learn how to operate our new truck. It is a Big Red Truck. Since BRT means nothing I think I will nickname the truck Brute. So far we can open the doors and turn on the truck. I have changed the ambient lighting from green to blue. The car seats fit well with much more space in between the two. I have not been able to operate the radio correctly. They are no longer called radios. Instead they are entertainment centers. Oh good grief. Jerry found the windshield wipers while it was raining. We just laugh as we discover something new daily. This will be a fun adventure for us. Forget reading the book. It's like an encyclopedia.

This morning we saw our regular visitor to our yard. A little bunny who appears to not be growing at all.
He's been the same size for the past month. Do rabbits have runts or dwarfs?
We don't know. He loves the grass in the side yard. We do our best to not disturb
him, but I had to take this picture. We don't even know he is a he.
But he, or she, is still tiny for a bunny. The girls love to watch him.

Have you had enough pictures? I will give you a break now. But you can bet there will be more to come. We are babysitting three days a week now so the opportunity to take pictures has increased.

A miracle-May 24, 2016

A miraculous thing happened today. We were both so stunned all I could do was take a picture.

Hannah and Zoey both reclined on Big Dog and watched
Zack and Quack.

It has been so many months since we have seen
them civil that we just stared in disbelief. Nobody knocked the other
one down. Nobody pulled hair. Nobody gouged the other one's eye.
It was so quiet it was close to being alarming.

But we decided instead to be grateful!

Water pistols-May 22, 2016

It finally got warm enough yesterday to stay outside and play. It's a tough time of year for allergies, but the almost warm sun was so inviting. We decided it was a day to learn to shoot water pistols. We bought the smallest ones we could find so Zoey could use them. She still had a hard time making her finger press the trigger.

When Granddaddy fired first Hannah was
caught off guard.

But then she got the hang of it.
And she loved it. So many fun giggles.

We went through two sets of clothes but I would have gladly changed several more times. It was just too much fun for all of us. We got a Fed Ex delivery right in the middle of our battle. I had to go to the door with wet clothes and dripping hair. I just laughed and told her we were having a water pistol battle in the back yard. She laughed, too. It was a day of great fun for such a simple game. We can hardly wait on another chance to do battle. We may have to graduate to a larger pistol that holds a lot more water.

Trip-May 17, 2016

I can't believe I still have not finished posting pictures from our trip to Alabama. I think I will have to give up on some of them. But let me share this one.

Guess the name of this sandwich shop.

The Three Eared Rabbit.

Located in Trussville, it is a neat little sandwich shop with excellent food and a neat gift shop. Why would anybody name an eating establishment The Three Eared Rabbit? And why would anybody eat there? I can't answer the first one, but the second one is that people eat there because it is so good!
Good friends, James and Gloria, took us there for lunch one day. What a great meal we had! I was taken with both the unique name and the food. But the company was best of all!

Still behind-May 11, 2016

I just know one day I will have some free time. I have much to share. For now, I will share a couple of pictures of those "angels" we call our granddaughters.

My dear Mother had tons and tons of costume jewelry. So, I brought a few necklaces back for Hannah and Zoey to play with. As you can see they found it to be fun to dance with it around their necks. I know my Mother would approve.

We can't get over how innocent they look in pictures. But, wow, can they ever get wild and try to choke each other or throw things at one another. It is difficult to stay on top of the situation sometimes. But so far, so good.

More of the trip-May 3, 2016

Look at these pictures taken in north Alabama as we were headed to Birmingham.

Any ideas on what these depict?

It's tornado damage. Probably a little one that skipped across the interstate. We could guess there was no real damage, just the trees. It was fairly recently because the inside of the broken trees was still fresh and white. It had not aged or weathered at all. Note that the cell phone tower was unharmed. That's the quirk of tornadoes. We forgot to ask about this when we got to Birmingham. Someone might have known about it.

A break from the trip-May 1, 2016

Happy May Day!

I wanted to take a break from pictures of our recent trip and share a fun story with you. A pair of robins have decided to build a nest on our neighbor's fence. Well, I guess the female decided. We have been absolutely fascinated at how hard the female is working. Only a few times has the male carried twigs or grass to the nest. He mostly just watches.

See the nest right up next to the wall and in between the slats on the fence.
It is quite a safe and protected from weather. I give credit to the female for being
so smart in picking this spot.

She's in the nest in this picture. See her tail up against the wall.

At the ripe old age of 21+ I have never watched a bird build a nest. It is absolutely fascinating. I'd like to get some good pictures but I am so afraid of scaring her away. And she has worked so hard she should be able to stay. I had to go online to find information on a robin's nest. It takes 2-6 days to build a nest with an average of 180 trips per day. She will sit on the nest the evening of the day the second egg is laid. And then she stays there for up to 14 days leaving only a few times a day for food for no longer than 10 minutes at a time.

I think this might be fun for the girls to watch especially when the babies hatch. We might be able to get on a ladder to see the eggs if they are not hatched. We can see the nest from our window but not where the eggs will be.

I'll keep trying to get better pictures and then post them here.

We also have rabbits here. We are not even sure how many, but there's no need counting because they multiply so fast.
He's cute as a button and not the least bit afraid of people.
But they carry a dreadful disease that can be deadly to small children.
We will watch the yard closely and be sure it is clean before the girls go out to play.

We feel like we are living in the wild! Not really.
