Batman-September 30, 2016

The fun part of cleaning out a storage unit is all the fun things you find that you had forgotten. We found Derrick's Batman costume from many years ago. Hannah and Zoey were here and they delighted in seeing it. Hannah had to try it on.

It's a wee bit large but she loved it nonetheless.

That is the original Batman mask made for the first Batman movie. It was made by a company in Greeley. They are no longer here. I suspect they moved to Los Angeles to be near the movie industry. They had been awarded the contract to make all the masks for that movie. They did not sell to the public, but they sold to me because I called them every day and tried to be persuasive. Finally they relented. And that puppy cost me $50 way back then. But oh my goodness was it worth every penny. It is still in excellent shape and should last for many more years. I bought the gloves also but made the cape. The biggest difference in what Michael Keaton wore and this one is that his mask was molded into his body suit. Otherwise it is the same. I consider this to be one of the fun treasures of my lifetime. I have lots of categories for treasures and this one falls under "fun"!

We hope to take the girls Halloween costume shopping tomorrow. If we don't find the perfect ones I will be sewing them. Both seem to want to be cats.

A Long Walk-September 25, 2016

Today was just too pretty to stay inside and clean out boxes of no longer needed tax records. (Part of cleaning out our storage unit). So we went for a long walk-make that a very long walk-to take in the cool air and warm sun. We walked up a long hill to get a great vantage point of surrounding areas. It was really neat. At the top of the hill there were maps and pictures of what we could see. Very interesting.

Looking west over Greeley, Loveland and points beyond, we
could see Mt Meeker and Long's Peak. Most people call the two
Long's Peak. It's easier. It was a tad hazy today but a great improvement
over days and days of fog.

This tree is just starting to turn while we have a
few that have almost lost all their leaves.
Fall is an interesting time.

I'm not sure what kind of tree this is and it doesn't matter,
but I do really like the colors.

We hope tomorrow is equally as pretty because we know snow is not far away. And we are so not ready for it! Plus we would enjoy another outdoor break from our task at hand.

Chickens-September 19, 2016

Some cities are known for particular things. And they display those items on street corners. Rapid City, SD has life size statues of past presidents. Here, Loveland has hearts displayed everywhere. There's a city in the Mississippi Delta whose name I have forgotten. They have catfish on every corner. I believe it's Dallas that has cowboy boots on every corner. Well, Forest, Mississippi has chickens on every corner. Please allow me to share a few pictures.

This one had a nearby fire hydrant that was decorated.

This one must cheer for a college team.

Not sure about this one.

Sophisticated?

There are many more of these but you get the point. This tiny little clean town would not exist if it were not for several chicken processing plants around it. Tyson is the largest of the companies. So I guess the city leaders decided a tribute to the lowly chicken was in order. They are all very cute.

Sheep-September 14, 2016

See what you get when you buy a new mattress:

They are both Serta sheep number 5. Look at those eyes!
If nothing else makes you laugh these critters will.
Hannah and Zoey loved them and took them home with them today.

Margaritaville Hotel-September 13, 2016

Recently we had an opportunity to stay at this hotel.

It was a decorated like no other we have experienced. Light and happy colors.

This was the first time we have seen a ceiling fan in a hotel room.
Perhaps it's where we stay? This was a real treat.

I love this bench which was at the front door of the hotel.

This is where you enter (and exit) the elevators. And you can see
a bit of the carpet. I should have taken pictures of the elevators
inside. They were beautiful.

What's a tropical theme hotel without a calming waterfall?

To complete the scene we found one of these little lizards we
used to see everywhere on the Gulf coast. Plus he was on a
Sega (Sego) palm frond. We miss those palms especially
the gigantic one we had in our front yard.

This hotel was a real treat for us. It was adjacent to a shopping area and several restaurants, so it was easy to get lots of exercise and spend a little money. We look forward to going back to this one in the future.

Signs of fall?-September 9, 2016

Today was a beautiful day, the first day it has been cool enough to open windows and doors and let fresh air inside. As I closed one window in the girl's playroom I noticed our tree out front had a few leaves with fall colors showing.

I found it odd that only these few leaves have changed and the
rest of the tree is very green. I like it however.
Though we have some 90 degree days left, fall is just around
the corner.

Old newspaper-September 8, 2016

Our local paper which is very much still a small town country paper, publishes clips of news articles from one hundred years ago. They are incredibly interesting. One of them today caught my eye and I could not resist sharing it with you.

I believe another count is in order!

Use for the cars-September 5, 2016

Remember the cars we got that the Hays restaurant used for kids meals? Zoey found a new use for them.

Rosie and Princess Mew Mew have new rides in the food bowls.
They seemed content. And Zoey was thrilled.

Have you ever seen these?
They are called chalk pencils.

You can change the color of the chalk in the tip of the pencil and
even sharpen it. I think I actually bought these for myself!
