Maybe some people see this and think of the old west.
I see scenery from long ago when the earth was being formed
by roaring water. I say if these rocks could talk we probably
would be shocked at what is inside.
I have always said there are only two seasons in this part of the country:
brown and white. We are in the brown season now. This is a really pretty
during the summer when it has more color, less brown. I still think
there are dinosaur bones in these mesas.
We had lunch at the Albany. Excellent food. And across the street is
the original train depot called Union Station. It has been meticulously restored.
Very pretty. It now contains a gift shop, a museum, a meeting/dining place and
a micro brewery called Accomplice Brewing Company. We have not eaten
there yet. We returned to the Albany which was once a hotel.
Cheyenne has lots of bronze statues, almost all of which are a tribute to the city's
interesting history. This was such a cute pony. No doubt it reminds everyone of the wild
horses that used to roam this area.
We had a very "Chatty Cathy" waitress. She talked our ears off. I must confess she knew a lot about Cheyenne's history. We might assume she was a native or had at least been there most of her life.
I was able to share my one tidbit of information with her and that is that Warren AFB is the only Air Force base in the entire country that does not have an airport, not even a landing strip. She was surprised I knew that. The AFB and the city of Cheyenne share the city's airport.
We always plan to go back to Cheyenne, if for no other reason than to shop at Menard's. We love, love, love that store!
