There was so much hail it was rolling down the street like rain.
The rain did appear well after the damage was done.
We have a tile roof as do all houses in this subdivision. We do have cracked tiles. We picked up the broken pieces so the lawn care people would not run over them with their mowers. The house north of us got much more damage. Windows were not harmed nor was the stucco. We are every so grateful we had a big garage to protect our truck, Brute. I had looked out the window and commented that the sky did not look good for somebody. It was us! Within 3 minutes the first hailstone hit and we were shocked.
We saved some of the hail stones to use as a teaching moment for the girls.
Some of the stones were an inch and a half in diameter.
When the girls came over on Tuesday we cut some of the stones in half and counted the rings. Every ring means the stone has gone from the top of the cloud to the bottom and back to the top, a complete rotation. These stones had 3 and 4 rings. Had they had 5 or 6 rings the damage would have been more severe. Hannah and Zoey ate this up. They had no idea. I drew a picture and explained about the temperature at the top of the cloud and the bottom of the cloud and how extremely cold it has to be in order to freeze rain. I was happy to share this with them.
It will be about a 4 week wait before a claims adjuster can get here. That's fine. We fared very well. The little BMW across the street looks like the dimples on a golf ball. The owner is not a happy camper. But the apartments across the street has a number of vehicles with no windshields at all. We were and are very blessed.
