Margaritaville-November 21, 2012

For a long time we have wanted to see Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Biloxi. Several years ago, after Katrina, a gigantic building was started on the beach and it was to be Margaritaville. Then suddenly there was a huge uproar and construction ceased. They left the concrete and steel in place. It is still there today. It looks absolutely awful. Then it was announced that the building would be built on the bay. So, today we went to Biloxi to see it. Oh my, what a huge disappointment. We just knew it would be spectacular. It is not and it actually makes no statement at all.

It is like a big old beach house.

There is one big boat inside used as decoration. And there's a fake volcano. It goes without saying that you do hear his music. But other than that and a lack of air conditioning it was not at all what we expected. Coming back we tried to get a picture of the sunset but it was way too bright for my little camera. We'll get one another day.

It is still very sad to see dozens and dozens of driveways that go nowhere because the house was completely demolished by Katrina. They are building some commercial buildings but we saw only a couple of houses under construction. Beach Blvd which had to be completely rebuilt is now starting to deteriorate. This is 7 years after Katrina and 8 years after Ivan and things are not even close to being back to normal. Those poor people in New York and New Jersey are going to be in for a real shock when they realize how long it actually takes to rebuild after that kind of destruction. Bless their hearts.
