OLD Colorado City-April 17, 2012

Tax day. We discovered in this area lies the original Colorado City, now called OLD Colorado City, founded in 1859. The one we stayed in over the weekend is the new Colorado City. Who knew? The old one was a gold mining town as so many towns in this part of Colorado were. There were two gold ore carts on the main street. They are larger than coal ore carts. Here's one.

It was a great walk on a wonderful day. The weather is so nice. No matter where you go in this area Pikes Peak towers over every view. It is a mere 14,110 feet tall, so it should tower, right? There's so much snow on it which makes it really pretty. Otherwise, it is brown, all rock, no trees. We'd love to bottle this weather and take it with us everywhere. We also took a very long walk this morning on a walking trail behind the park. The trail roamed through some very nice parks, under a couple of highways and past the back entrance to the Garden of the Gods. We should sleep well tonight. We're on the road tomorrow to Derrick's house.
