Breaux Bridge, LA-January 7, 2014

This is the food capital of our world. We are so excited to be here even though we will not have running water tonight. Back to using our pump which Jerry is keeping warm with a big light in that bay. This is the last cold night for the foreseeable future. It has been brutal but we are very determined to keep on keeping on. The drive here was pleasant with only a few big wind gusts. All the water on the side of the road was frozen. But the sun was shining and that made things seem better.

It's a pretty big bridge across the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge but
then it's a pretty big river. And the view from a coach is very different than from a car.

Baton Rouge (French for "red stick") from the top of the bridge. A casino in the foreground.

Barges being pushed up, not down, the Mississippi.

Oil refineries as far as the eye can see.

The Atchafalaya Basin (used to be called a swamp) is very dry and almost everything is very brown and gray. We have never seen it like this. It was a sad 18 mile drive across this swamp.

A rare green field at the very edge of the swamp.

A lake within the swamp is so low the cypress tree knees are clearly visible.
These are very dangerous to boaters and this swamp is normally full of boaters.
There are literally thousands of cypress trees in this basin.

One of those infamous Louisiana levees.

We were able to get our favorite spot at this Fish-N-Camp which means I will bore you with more sunset pictures on another day. It is nice to be settled in again. We will be able to visit with friends while we are here.
Only one more cold night.......................
