Space Center-May 21, 2011

We became tourists again today and went to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. I've known about that place all my life, but never did I really understand what went on there. I did not give them enough credit for their part in the space race as it was called years ago. I knew about Wernher Von Braun coming here to work on our ICBM program, but did not know that he and his entire crew had actually surrendered to the U. S. after the war. He worked first in Fort Bliss, TX. We are certain that our park manager was part of that program. He has shared so many wonderful stories with us. We were amazed at how tiny those original capsules were. Our astronauts were really very small men in physical size, but big in heart and courage. They had to be small to fit in! It was an incredibly interesting visit. The Lunar landing module was very small too, for such a big step in our space program. If you are ever near here, be sure to see it. It requires a lot of walking through gigantic buildings and on the grounds, but it is so worth it. Just another reason to be proud of the United States.
